I have both the original Master Replicas Light Sabers and purchased this one because I wanted the blade-less light saber for a Halloween costume. They hilt version was not available and the one that is out there has bad reviews. Though really, I partially think I bought it because I wanted to see the difference between the two.

Side-by-side, they look identical. The weight is about the same, so I’d argue that Hasbro, most likely, duplicated the Master Replica one. The addition of the belt clip is really cool, though I have yet to try to clip it with the blade in the hilt to a belt, I’m concerned about weight.

The big difference, to me, is the sounds. The striking methods are still basically the same, but the Master Replica one sounds more authentic and real than the Hasbro one. The Hasbro one sounds more toy-like and manufactured than the sounds from the Master Replicas one. I feel like the Master Replicas one sounds more like what you hear from the movies. I think they’ve gone out of business though, so I don’t think you can buy them except maybe ebay.

Overall, it’s a great toy and great for a Halloween costume. It is an acceptable alternative to the Master Replicas version, but that is, to me, the Gold Standard, which this toy did not meet. Given the price, I’m not sure I’d buy more Hasbro Light sabers, thankfully, I have a cache of Master Replicas ones, so I think I’m good.

Many moons ago when I first saw the Star Wars films I always thought it would be cool to own a real lightsaber such as the Darth Vader FX Lightsaber. These tools are the principle weapons of both the Jedi and the Sith.
